The protective effect of β-cryptoxanthin against cyclophosphamide-induced lung injury in adult male albino rats

چکیده
Abstract Background Cyclophosphamide (CYP) is an anticancer agent widely used in chemotherapy. It has been suggested that CYP causes toxicity many organs, including the lungs and testes. Many studies have indicated some antioxidants possible protective effects against CYP’s side effects. β-cryptoxanthin (BCX), a major carotenoid of potential interest for health, known its antioxidant activities. This study aimed to investigate effect BCX on CYP-induced lung injury rats using histologic biochemical methods. Methods Forty adult male albino were divided into 4 groups: Group I served as control group. II received orally dose mg/kg per day 7 days. III single (200 mg/kg) intraperitoneally (i.p.) 7th study. IV (CYP + BCX). On 8th experiment, tissues collected histopathological examinations. The levels malondialdehyde (MDA), myeloperoxidase (MPO), reduced glutathione (GSH), peroxidase (GSH-Px) superoxide dismutase (SOD) also determined all dissected tissues. Results Pretreatment with ameliorated morphological changes noticed group MDA MPO significantly decreased whereas those GSH, GSH-Px SOD increased. Conclusions provides by reducing oxidative stress pulmonary fibrosis.

15 صفحه اولThe possible protective effect of L-arginine against 5-fluorouracil-induced nephrotoxicity in male albino rats.
5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is a potent antineoplastic agent used for the treatment of various malignancies. The L-argininenitric oxide (NO) pathway involved in the pathogenesis of chemotherapy induced kidney damage. This work investigated the beneficial mechanism of L-arginine supplementation in 5 FU induced nephropathy. Eighty male Wistar rats were divided into four equal groups: Control group; L-a...

Background: Cyclosporine is one of the main immunosuppressors used for renal transplant recipients, and is given to prevent transplant rejection. Although the drug increases the survival of patients and grafted organs, it has some side effects independent of its effect on the immune system that are usually ignored. Achillea Millefolium is famous for its medical application as an analgesic and a...
متن کاملProtective Role of Adansonia digitata Extract Against Glyphosate-induced Hepatorenal Toxicity in Adult Male Wistar Rats
Background: Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide, and it poses numerous health risks to the environment and living organisms. This study aimed at assessing the protective role of Adansonia digitata (A. digitata) on glyphosate-induced hepatorenal toxicity in a Wistar rat model. Methods: Twenty-five rats were randomly divided into five groups of five animals each. The first group did not...
متن کاملProtective effect of ginger against alcohol-induced renal damage and antioxidant enzymes in male albino rats.
Superoxide dismutase, ascorbic acid, glutathione and uric acid levels were decreased and xanthine oxidase, glutathione-s-transferase activities were increased in alcohol treated (2 g/kg body weight, once daily for 30 days) group. However, treatment with ethanolic extract of ginger (100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg body weight, po, once daily for 30 days) these parameters came to normalcy showing the antiox...
